#3. Cease dependence on mass inspection

Eliminate the dependence on inspection to achieve quality. Eliminate theneed for inspection on a mass basis by building quality into the productin the first place.

You can't savemoney if you are more worried about money, than you are about quality.Cease dependence on mass inspection to achieve quality. Mass inspection is notreliable. Inspection sound right, butit’s just plain WRONG!You can’t inspect quality in,yet we haveorganizationsusing ISO and auditstoprove quality.Inspection is aNon-Value-AddedActivity. No matter how hard you inspect the product it’s not going to getany better than it already is.Routine inspection is the same as planning for defects, acknowledging that the process isn’t correct, or that the specifications made no sense inthe first place. Inspection is too late as well as ineffective and costly.Instead requirestatistical evidence that quality is built in.Quality doesn't come from inspection, but fromimprovement of the process and design. Improve the process so that defects aren’tproduced in the first place. This eliminates the need for inspection on a mass basis.
